advent, advent...

advent season (& finishing my master's thesis) means... time to bake cookies. today we baked päpanät, a traditional german/dutch/danish/menno (please make up your mind norma jost voth!) christmas cookies. they're a perfect size for little hands.

i'm sure ours turned out so well because they were lovingly watched the entire time they were baking.

lately around our house:

m has monkey in one hand, bear in the other, singing to them, babbling to them, dancing...

he gently lays both stuffies down, telling them very seriously, "faites dodo!"

apparently bear gives him some trouble. he holds him up very closely to his face and says, "fais dodo, bäa! fais dodo, bäa!" bear then sleeps obediently.

probably awakened by bear's shenanigans, monkey protests the early bedtime. monkey, too, receives a solemn look and "fais dodo, ooh ooh ooh (imagine a monkey making this sound)!"

we are enchanted by our boy.

i am this close to finishing my thesis.

but as i race towards the finish line (november 26th), i feel like a pinball being shot back & forth in the motivation machine.

one day, 8 pages.

another day, one sentence.

long periods of staring at the computer screen.

no, it is not time for a break again.

last week i was at the university monday tuesday wednesday thursday friday saturday sunday.

there is such a thing as too much university.

i need to go home to drink a pot of tea.

& talk to my husband.

& play with my son.
